Lawn Care Tips for Late Summer

Homeowners with small or large lawns always have one thing in common; the desire to have healthy green grass. As seasons shift did you know your lawn routines should too? For example, in spring the focus is on getting the grass back up and ready for summer, and by fall we want it to be ready for the snow to come. So, during late summer what kind of maintenance should you be doing?

Water Less

When days were consistently high temperatures and humid it was necessary to water often, but with the transition to cooler temps you can water less. As temps drop the water doesn’t evaporate as fast, leading to more water getting to the roots. When you begin to water less, don’t abruptly stop as that could hurt the grass. A gradual reduction will help your grass adjust at a healthy pace.

Fertilize

Late summer is a great time to fertilize your lawn to help roots grow stronger and deeper. When you fertilize your lawn make sure you give it plenty of water after to help the fertilizer get to where it needs to go. Know it’s going to rain soon? Get your fertilizer on the lawn and the rain will take care of the irrigation step!

Aerate Your Lawn

Aeration is the process of putting tiny holes into your lawn to help break up old matted grass and promote new growth. This is a crucial lawn care process many homeowners never do because they don’t have the knowledge or equipment to do it right. Good new, Clean Cut has years of experience and every tool necessary to do a perfect lawn aeration.

Continue Mowing

While you need to continue mowing your lawn, you should be aware of how low to cut your grass as it gets cooler. Depending on the grass in your yard it may be more beneficial for a low cut, while others may do better with a high cut. Not sure what your grass needs?
