This Year’s Landscaping Trends

Each year we love seeing and being a part of the new trends that evolve in outdoor landscapes. From flowering potentillas and ground covering perennials, to wild grasses and the newest Hosta variety, we have seen and been part of it all! While landscapes in 2021 still have many of those same varieties, a new focus has shifted in the way we plant and organize some landscapes.

Hydrangeas trees are a growing trend that helps give height and fragrance to a flower bed. A traditional hydrangea bush typically stays low to the ground while trees have a think trunk and develops an umbrella full of hydrangeas’ signature flower clusters. Depending on the variety, they can get 8-15 feet tall when fully mature.

Asiatic lilies are similar to common daylily but have a unique twist. First and foremost, the biggest difference between the two is that instead of typical roots Asiatic lilies grow from a bulb. Other unique characteristics include taller stocks with full leaf coverage, longer lasting flowers, and certain varieties bloom early, mid and late summer, giving you flowers all summer long.

Sedum has always been a popular choice, but as more varieties become available, we can get unique pairings in a landscape. Blue elf, sun sparkler firecracker, lemon jade, and plum dazzled sedum are just a few varieties we have been working with in our recent landscapes. Depending on the variety it can help bring in unique colors, such as purple or deep greens, as well as mid to late summer flowers.
